Former Memphis TV News Anchor selected as finalist in the 2007 Mrs. Tennessee Pageant
Michelle Robinson McKissack is named Mrs. West Tennessee 2007. She will represent the western area of the state next May at the Mrs. Tennessee pageant, the official preliminary to the Mrs. America Pageant. The Mrs. America Pageant is the only nationally televised pageant for America’s more than 65 million married women.
Michelle Robinson McKissack, known to television news viewers by her professional moniker, Michelle Robinson, anchored and reported the news for WPTY-TV (ABC) and WREG-TV (CBS) in Memphis for eight years.
McKissack believes the Mrs. Tennessee pageant will provide the opportunity to promote something she feels very passionate about -- personal involvement in public education. Since leaving a more public life as a news anchor, McKissack has focused on her family, which includes three young boys.
She is co-president of the parent/teacher organization (PTO) at Downtown Elementary School where her eldest attends and has witnessed firsthand how getting involved can make a huge impact in the lives of children. For the last two years, McKissack has guided an art program at the school called Heart for Art. It is solely funded by the PTO and grants from various community businesses.
“Downtown Elementary is an amazing school. The parents are really involved, but I’m especially impressed with all the volunteers and business leaders who don’t have children attending the school, but still carve out time to help the children,” McKissack said. “That’s the message that’s getting lost. You can get a great education in a public school, but everyone has to get involved to make it happen.”
McKissack, a native of West Tennessee, was born and raised in Memphis. She now resides in downtown Memphis with her husband, John McKissack and boys, John, James and Peter.
Michelle Robinson McKissack will compete in the 2007 Mrs. Tennessee Pageant Saturday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at Liberty Magnet School Auditorium in Jackson, Tennessee.
Mrs. Tennessee 2007 will represent the beauty and accomplishments of Tennessee’s married women in the Mrs. America Pageant in September 2007. The Mrs. America Pageant will be a two-hour prime time national telecast on WE- Women’s Entertainment Television Network.
